Carson City Chamber of Commerce
A membership organization's website has to be all things to all people — members, prospective members, visitors, and the staff who run it every day. This one is live at carsoncitychamber.com.
The project
One site, four audiences
A chamber of commerce site is deceptively hard. It is a member directory, an events calendar, a benefits explainer, a visitor resource, and a staff tool — all at once, and all for people arriving with completely different intentions. Most of the complexity is invisible until you try to build it.
The brief was to keep every bit of that functionality while making the thing genuinely easy to use, for members browsing it and for Chamber staff maintaining it. That meant working through the structure with the Chamber rather than handing over a design and asking them to fit into it.
The site went live with the full scope intact, and we walked the staff through running it themselves — the part of a handover that usually gets skipped and is usually what determines whether a new site survives its first year.
In their words
“It was a pleasure to work with Brandon Damman, webdesigner and owner of Digital Horizon, on creating our new user friendly site. As a Chamber of Commerce, our site is extensive and we must be all things to all people. That mission was accomplished. Brandon provided great input but also listened to what we wanted and the end result is perfect. Most sites will not be as intensive as ours, but he was up to the task. Our members have weighed in and we received many "love the new site!" Brandon was responsive to all emails and phone coversations as he walked staff through how to navigate the new site. Highly recommended for your website needs! That mission was accomplished.”
